.history
Anita's family was happy and her home was warm. She was rich and well-blooded and her future was brght. She got along with her siblings, for the most part, as well as anyone could in a family so large. She never had any doubt that her parents loved her deeply, and they never ignored her or neglected her. But nevertheless, there was always something missing in Anita's reality ... and so she made her focus fantasy, instead.
Her childhood was spent searching for mermaids and faeries on the banks of the Fallah river and chasing imaginary kelpies through the cattails of the marsh. When forced inside by rain and snow, she searched out every fable and fantasy in the libraries and read them until they were all dog-eared and worn. Passing harpers and bards were pressed for every romantic tale in their repetoire, and all the stories became her reality. She dreamed that the world beyond Vernhail's borders was exactly like her stories, full of wonder and magic and beauty. Often, she imagined herself attending court and being swept off her feet by Prince Ian.
It was when she was in her early teens, learing to play the lyre so she could imitate the music of the harpers she loved so much, that her parents finally began to worry that Anita's hold on reality may be tenuous at best. After trying to steer her towards more practical hobbies for months, they finally decided it would be good for her to spend some time away from Vernhail, with the most sensible House in all Dentoria, who they happened to be tied to via marriage. Lady Anita was, despite all her protests, escorted to Allba when she was thirteen.
Allba was a lonely place for a girl of Anita's age. The family was all made up of adults who had their own troubles to worry about and no time to entertain Anita. The servant's children tried their best to become friends with her, but she refused them anything but cursory politeness -- she was not desperate enough to play with commoners. Anita became withdrawn and lonely, crying herself to sleep and becoming obsessed with the world in her fairy tales, finding them the only comfort she had in this new world.
She was shocked when, nearly two years after she'd arrived in Allba, an invitation came from House Conare to her and her alone, especially for her, to have her visit with Lord Nicolas. When Lord Rylan agreed to the arrangment, Anita was thrilled, coming out of her shell almost overnight and beginning to imagine exactly what the Sovreign of the West was like. She'd heard so many stories that he was handsome and charming and wonderful.
On the way to Conare, however, her escort was attacked by bandits and Anita was taken by them. She was certain they'd deflower her and kill her, but in what seemed like the nick of time, she was rescued just like the stories by the handsome, powerful, dashing Lord Nicolas. Since arriving in Conare, Anita's world has burst into colour. It's everything she ever dreamed court would be. Lord Nicolas devotes nearly all his time to her, and when he has work to do, he leaves her with falcons and horses and gowns and his charming, beautiful little girl. Already, Anita dreams of the perfect future that lays ahead of her. Lord Nicolas is a heartbroken widower who needs his heart mended, after all, and no matter the age difference between them, surely her hero must see that they are perfect for one another, just like Princess Keliara and Sir Lake.

.personality.
Anita is dreamy and often seems distracted, usually by her own epic fantasies. Her parents and siblings often had to call her name several times before they received a response. She spends much of her time alone formulating grand dreams of how her world will become -- being swept into Prince Ian's arms and carried to their wedding, or being held in Lord Nicolas' arms, Eara asleep in her lap. She imagines every possible thing that could happen in her favor, and how wonderful it would be, and perhaps someday how the bards will write songs about her, as well.
Anita is always eager to please, and agrees easily and with utmost courtesy. She thinks about all the ladies she remembers hearing about, their quiet strength and their manners, and does her best to imitate that. She tries to impress, but tries not to worry about whether her efforts will work. When she does worry, she's obsessive and perfectionistic about it, her vivid imagination turning things from a fairyland to a nightmare that will surely come true if she doesn't make sure that every detail is in place.
She is a bit spoiled and haughty, very aware of her place in the societal ladder of Dentoria. She is a noble lady, and will not be suffered to lower herself to the level of servants or commoners simply to entertain herself. A true lady does not need company to be satisfied with her life, and therefore, neither should Anita. She can therefore be a bit pointed and rude to those she considers "below" her, although she simply thinks of herself as putting them in their rightful place and making sure there is nothing that can conflict with the fairytale world she has woven so carefully around her.
When Anita is happy, she is smiling and pleasant, eager to share stories and always willing to listen. She is sunny and warm, even if shy, and at her best, she is difficult to upset, too delighted with the face that things are going well to see any way that they could ever go wrong. When Anita is unhappy, she is withdrawn and quiet, becoming a tense, sullen shadow of her former self and thinking only of how things will improve in order to make herself feel better. Usually, however, this only succeeds in making her feel worse, which results into a further withdrawal, spending her time alone in her room or in the library.
She has kept a journal since she was very young, filling half of it with girlish writings of her life, and the rest with stories she dreams up of her own future, or extensions of the stories she has learned in bard's tales.

.appearance.
Anita has wavy auburn hair that she keeps cut in a short bob and often ties two ribbons into to keep out of her face. She also has large, dark eyes. She's very delicate in height and build. Anita prefers to wear clothing and jewelery that stimulates the fantasy that she's a fable princess, and can usually be seen with her lyre or a dog-eared book.
